01
When to consider house rewiring
Rewiring may be considered after inspection findings or during substantial changes to a home. Older wiring is a reason to assess condition, not an automatic diagnosis. Clarify which concerns a rewire is intended to address and whether there are areas of the installation that can reasonably be retained.
02
Full or partial house rewiring
A full rewire and a partial rewire need clear boundaries. The proposal should state the rooms, circuits and fittings included and explain how retained parts will be assessed. Consider likely future uses while access is available, but distinguish a useful future provision from equipment you do not intend to install.
03
Plan sockets, lights and fixed equipment
Work through each room and identify furniture, work surfaces, lighting controls and fixed appliances. Good positioning reduces the chance of needing alterations once walls are finished. Confirm which fittings you will supply and which are included, including any variations in finish, dimming or control arrangements.
04
Rewiring access and making good
Access under floors and above ceilings can affect disruption. Occupied properties may need carefully agreed phases and temporary arrangements, without assuming every room can remain in normal use. Ask about testing, documentation and who handles plastering, painting and reinstatement. Those responsibilities can materially change the overall project budget.
05
Prepare your house rewiring request
Provide plans, property size, occupancy information and any relevant reports. Explain whether the aim is a complete renovation or defined wiring work. A useful quote identifies the included circuits and fitting quantities, finishing exclusions and how changes to the agreed layout will be handled.

Questions about house rewiring
Can I stay in the property during a rewire?
That depends on the extent, access and working arrangements. Discuss occupancy before accepting a quote so you understand which areas may be unavailable and how the work will be sequenced.
Does a rewire include plastering and decorating?
Not automatically. Ask whether making good is included, who carries it out and what level of finish is provided. Electrical installation and decoration are distinct scopes.
Can some existing circuits be retained?
Potentially, subject to condition and suitability assessment. A partial rewire should clearly identify retained circuits and how they interact with the new installation.
